About / Bio
Naoki Ogiwara has extensive experience in knowledge management, organizational transformation and innovation projects for more than 16 years as consultant, researcher and practitioner.

His previous work includes: Director, Research & Planning Department, Asian Productivity Organization, where he was instrumental for strategy formulation initiatives and KM-related researches and capacity building programs, working closely with National Productivity Organizations and governments of the 20 member countries; Senior Knowledge Management Officer at The World Bank in Washington DC, where he led KM initiatives enhancing flow of knowledge among 1200 staff across the world and measuring its results; and Senior Consultant at Knowledge Dynamics Initiative in Tokyo, where he led KM consulting projects for large Japanese organizations in diverse sectors such as automobile, consumer-electronics, chemistry, IT-service, finance and government. He is also a benchmarking specialist on KM and innovation, visited and analyzed more than 50 leading-edge organizations worldwide.

He has worked on KM research projects with global KM gurus such as Professors Ikujiro Nonaka, Laurence Prusak, Thomas Davenport, and Leif Edvinsson that built his unique hybrid approaches of the eastern and western approaches, with an emphasis on Japanese concept “Ba,” or time and space in which people interact and share/create tacit knowledge.

He has written and co-authored many books/articles in his field. His recent work includes “Knowledge Management for the Public Sector,” (APO) and “The Potential of a New Workplace,” (NASA ASK Magazine). He holds an MBA, summa cum laude, from Babson College, Wellesley, MA, USA, and is currently with his doctoral work on knowledge-based management at Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo.
